Ever wondered why thermal water springs are good for you?

Any time of the year is great for your body to immerse in these water and benefit from them. So, how is it that natural thermal springs are good for you?

Basically, the properties of thermal water are attributed to the extensive travel of rain water, through rocky mountains before resurfacing. During this process, the water becomes rich in minerals and carbon dioxide. Therefore, thermal water is a type of mineral water that is located deep underground containing healing properties which is exempt from bacteria and pollution. Naturally pure and rich in mineral salts, iodine and CO2, thermal water is recognised for its therapeutic properties, particularly those that concern the skin.

In many cases and depending on the rock formations where the spring waters are naturally filtered they are full of antioxidants and have a high concentration of selenium. You may not have heard of it before but selenium is a great mineral that has been used to help soothe and manage skin conditions for many years, and it is rich in antioxidants which help to absorb free radicals.

For those with dry and sensitive skin, after bathing in these type of waters full of antioxidants, they will feel softer and more hydrated skin, and for those suffering with eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, or other skin blemishes they will feel soothed, less itchy and less inflamed.

The thermal springs of Bagno Vignoni in Tuscany are famously rich in sulphur, calcium, magnesium and sulphur bicarbonate, all great for skin conditions, respiratory disorders and joint and bone problems. These natural springs have been used for their curative properties since the Roman times and now the major hot springs are used by spa hotels and medical centres. But best of all are the wild hot springs which are scattered around the countryside, free and untamed – if you know where to look.
